Principal's Page

Eagle Family,

I am so excited to see all the students returning to school and I am looking forward to a great school year at Independence Middle School. The faculty and staff are looking forward to getting closer to normalcy.  We have been through many challenges during the last 18 months and we are prepared to support all of our students during the school year.

This amazing school offers a wide range of programs (Academies, Arts, Technology, etc.) to support the individual needs of each student. With athletics, concerts, competitions, and clubs resuming, there are so many opportunities for students to participate outside of the classroom.  Students that get involved outside the classroom have shown better academic performance in school.  The faculty is committed to preparing each student for high school and see each Eagle SOAR to success!

About me:

I have over 30 years of experience in education and I am an experienced Middle School Principal.  I have been a school leader in both urban and affluent schools. I understand the challenges of leading a high-performing middle school and have a proven record of success as a principal.

Some career accomplishments include: * Principal Supervisor of eleven middle schools, including five Title I schools that serve over 11,000 students within the School District of Palm Beach County.
*During my tenure as the Assistant Superintendent of Professional Growth, the district launched a conference style Teacher Fest and Principal Leadership Academy. I helped transform leadership development  by creating a partnership with FAU (EXEQ program). *Previously, I was Principal of East River High School for four years in Orange County, Florida. During that time, I led the transformation of that school to earn an “A-Rating” during the 2012-13 school year. This school had been a D-Rated school prior to my arrival.

*I was a top 3 finalist for the State of Florida’s Principal of the Year in 2014.

*I was recognized by Orange County Media Specialists as the Distinguished Administrator of the Year for 2010 when I was Principal at Maitland Middle School in Orange County.
As an Assistant Principal, I spent 2 years at Jones High School in Orlando, Florida and helped remove the school from the state’s “F” list.

*I was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Gotha Middle School in 2000 and received the Outstanding Teacher Award by Rollins College in 2003.

*In addition, I served in the US Air Force and was a member of the Best Security Police Group recognized by the US Air Force in 1988.

This is a great school with wonderful students, parents, teachers, and staff.  I am excited to lead this school and “Prepare our Eagles to SOAR into the Future".
